Jeroen, Development Manager Global Support
“Life takes funny turns,” says Jeroen. Three years ago he was returning to his native Holland after having spent several years abroad. “When I joined Basware as an Interface Consultant I didn’t at first care too much about the company, but that soon changed. The Dutch office was accelerating its operations and many opportunities came along. I specialized in SAP interfaces which turned out to be a great career opportunity.”
Now Jeroen is a member of the Global Support team which is responsible for making sure that both Basware’s own as well as business partners’ consultants and sales representatives receive all necessary technical training and support needed in their work. The work is truly international. “I get to use all my language skills in my job,” says Jeroen. In addition to his native language Dutch he is fluent in English, German and French.
Jeroen spends a number of days traveling and therefore it is essential to like traveling in this position. In his opinion, so far the most exotic jobs have taken him to Australia and the Polar Circle. Next Jeroen will be training sales people and consultants in Helsinki, Amsterdam as well as Munich.
BasWare has been a flexible employer. “I have moved to Paris in the spring and continue working from there. As long as I live close to the airport, there is no problem,” says Jeroen.
“As Basware is still developing fast in the right direction the future is looking really bright.”
Maria, Consultant
Maria has been working as a Consultant at Basware for almost a year. “I have really enjoyed it here. The work is interesting and there are opportunities to learn new things all the time”, she says. A consultant is involved in various customer service tasks. Maria’s days at work are occasionally spent in Lahti or Tampere depending on the customer project taking place at that particular time. Of course there are days that take place at the office in Basware’s headquarters in Espoo. International customer projects have already taken Maria to Scotland and Germany. “It is essential to enjoy traveling and meeting new people in this position.”
Maria has a Master’s Degree in Computing. Before she joined BasWare she had worked a few years in software development. “All work experience is useful.” A consultant takes part in project meetings, supports testing, installs applications and solves different problem situations. “Problem solving skills are important,” Maria laughs, “as you never know what comes of new customer projects.”
Language skills, computing skills, customer service experience and an understanding of financial management are all advantageous in the consultant’s post. “I did not have much knowledge of finance to begin with, but now that area is also more familiar to me.” says Maria.
According to Basware’s career development model it is possible to advance from a consultant’s position to become a project manager or a team leader. Your team and a large group of professionally skilled colleagues provide support, although at the customer premises you are normally on your own. Therefore, developing one’s own skills is definitely worth while.
“Basware has a youthful and laid back working environment, in addition to great team spirit. I can easily recommend it.”
Jussi, Software Architect
“I am pleased that I came to work at Basware,” says Jussi, one of BasWare’s Software Architects. Prior to joining Basware, Jussi held an executive role in a small software company which employed only a few people. “It was a good learning experience, as it has been a real advantage for me to have such understanding of the entire business.”
In addition to solid work experience Jussi had completed a Master of Science in Technology degree. He started at Basware as a Senior Software Engineer a year and a half ago and has since then already held several positions at BasWare. “You will be granted more responsibility if you want and there have been plenty of challenges.”
Own know-how and professional skills have to be continuously developed. “Basware as an employer has provided me with excellent opportunities to develop my skills,” tells Jussi. Currently he is working on a Microsoft Certified Solution Developer certification in addition to his work tasks.
“Working in the spearhead of technology is gratifying for a tech-nerd,” tells Jussi. ”We receive preliminary knowledge for instance of Microsoft’s newest technologies.” Basware is Microsoft’s Gold Certified Partner.
“Additionally a superb team and a youthful working environment have made me enjoy it here.” According to Jussi’s experience Basware is a suitable sized company. Not too big, so that an individual’s ability to influence things and show their own skills would be hindered. And not too small either. “There are plenty of knowledgeable colleagues within the company. You don’t need to learn everything the hard way,” Jussi sums up.
